"So I'm not invincible after all"

A little back ground, I manage a middle school wrestling team, and coach the support staff, the  score keepers better known as Stat Rats.

So I'm sitting at a table in the gym waiting for all the kids to get in there so we can get on with the plan for our practice time.

One of our heavy weight, state wrestlers walks up to me and says " So I'm not invincible after all I have a concussion"  I said What? how did that happen.  Not expecting the answer I got LOL

He goes on to tell me he was at his other wrestling practice, and was doing a cartwheel in practice for a move UHH OK LOL but any way part way through this cartwheel he fell on his head! LOL

The picture I got in my head cracks me up every time I think of this 243 pound 5'10 kid doing a cartwheel.

I have to say last year was my first real exposure to the wrestling community ( not the fake crap on t.v. the real stuff!)  What a great community, the kids are 99% of the time awesome! they help each other, and when one wins they always shake hands with the looser and in many cases will discuss the round with the looser and give them tips on what they could have done differently. How many sports does your opponent give you tips heheeh

One of our other guys broke his wrist a few weeks ago in a match, his first day back to practice he just kind of hung out, but the next day he was right out there doing all the warm up stuff with the rest of the team and encouraging the other kids during practice. I was so proud of him for not letting it stop him.  No one would have said a thing if he sat in the bleachers and just watched.

I always have to chuckle at the light weights. we are talking 80 to 100 pounds of 12, 13 and 14 year old boys. ( naturally this small not starving them selves!)  any way the girls find them so cute!!!!!!!! so they are the biggest flirts becuase they know the girls find them cute! LOL they are such show offs.

We have about 5 girls on the wrestling team, Most of them work just as hard as the boys, and some of them are really good!! I don't exactly agree with girls wrestling but that's not my choice to make for these girls so I support them same as the guys, and i get frustrated sometimes when other teams refuse to wrestle them. Its a win for the girls but a let down because they didn't get to earn it.

My youngest Levi wrestled last year and I fell in love with the program and the coaches. So  i kind of pushed my way in because I saw a need, well now they won't let me go LOL  Levi didn't wrestling at the High school this year ( will next year) so instead he came back to the middle school to help coach!  He really enjoyed his time as a Jr coach and he says he learned so much from teaching. But it really made him miss being on a team so next year he wants to wrestle. he put in 80's of his own time for this. The school he is going to is going to give him some PE credit for this, becuase he was out there not only coaching but working out with the guys.

So next year will be extremely busy during wrestling season! thank goodness the middle schoolers wrestle on different days as the high schoolers so i should be able to make it to most of both meets LOL
This works really well though so the High school wrestlers are the referees for the little guys k-5 and then the 6-8 kids. Makes it much cheaper for our teams w don't have to pay for referees and the older boys are volunteering their time for a good cause.

Well now that I have typed a book, I guess I will give you a break from reading any farther

Have a great weekend!
