Life Never stops

We spent Thursday Night in the ER. If you are squeamish you may not want to continue on to the rest of the blog.

Wednesday night We went to our new Gun Club orientation. We didn't get out tell after 9 we were all starving so we stopped at Arby's for dinner. Levi says he doesn't want any and opts to stay in the truck! RED flag! Levi is my junk food junk and usually own a meal at a fast food restaurant unless not feeling well.

Jesse and I head in side, Dave stay at the truck to talk to Levi.

Dave comes in side and says he has a not on the back of his foot, I"m like what??? Dave says he think it may be a blister but the way he described it sounded bigger then a blister.  So we order and go home. We walk in the door and Levi says mom can you take care of this, he took off his shoes and socks and  my jaw fell open! He has a blister that is about an inch long 1/2 inch tall and about 1/4 to 1/2 protruding out from the back of his ankle! it was filled with puss and blood! So I sterilize a needle and clean him up with alcohol I stick the needle in and pull it out and crud Shoots across my living room! WOW that was a lot of pressure!  I drain it the rest of the way clean it up put some ointment on it and cover it with gauze.

Thursday morning I look at it and it has filled up a tad again. so i drain that out, and recover it. Levi heads off to school I head off to my first Wrestling meeting of the year. This is at 7:15 am.  I spend most of the day on the road dropping people off and picking people up from places, spent a couple hours at the college with Jesse to get some stuff done before school starts. Go get Dave take him to Physical therapy ( oh yeah he has a very nasty case of tendinitis in his elbow, he has 5% use of that arm.) OK home long enough to make dinner, then Dave  run Levi up to a training class for out door school counselors. shew we got to sit down for a couple of hours and watch a movie while we ate our dinner. 9 pm come and it is time to  pick up Levi.

We get home and he says mom look at my foot and ankle is it swollen, I think I may have sprained it. I take on look and thing crap infection! it is bright pink and puffy, you can't even make out the bones of the ankle that poke out on either side.  I'm like we are going to Urgent care right now!!!!!!!

He wants to wait and see how it looks in the am, I 'm like uhhh NO if it is an infection we need it looked at ASAP.

We head to the Urgent care down the Road it is 9:38 as we pull up.  It closed at 9! LOL so our luck, so we had to the ER.

WOW it has been a long time since I have been in an ER  They give out pagers now like you get and a nice restaurant when you are waiting for your table LOL very odd. But it worked well. You check in, then you go wait for a triage nurse, she sounds your pager you go in she checks you out and figures out how badly you need a room, then she sends you back out and passes your paper work to registration.  They page you when they are ready to take your info and stuff.  Then they send you back to waiting and when a room is ready the page you in. Saves lots of walking the waiting room looking for the patient and saves you having to listen for your name.

Any way we get in there and the Doc looks him over.  He is concerned he may have an infection in the ankle joint its self. He tells us the only 100% way to determine this is to stick a needle in his joint and suck fluid out! EKKK doesn't sound very fun to me!  The Doc opted to do an Ultra sound first to see if there is any pockets of fluid first. He didn't find any. So he chose to not do the needle and diagnosis of cellulites. Basically a bacterial infection on or under the skin ( in this case Staff) He flat out told me he was hopping he made the right choice.  I rather watching it for a day and if it got worse go back in and do the needle. He also looked at the blister and opened it all the way up and cut all the dead skin off. He is pretty sure one has nothing to do with the other.

So we hit the 24 hour pharmacy at 1:15 got his meds and some supplies for his now open wound on the  back of his foot.

We got home about 1:40 am. Levi had not had dinner yet. Poor kid, I didn't think about that I was just so worried about the infection.  So i cooked him dinner LOL  grilled cheese LOL I had him start the antibiotics right then. we are all hopping the doctor included it is not the medicine resistant strain.

He has to take his meds 4 times a day and soak his foot for 30 minutes every 2 hours. and keep it up when he is not soaking it.

He has noticed that if he doesn't soak it as often as he is suppose to the pain gets worse and the swelling goes back up.

Right now he has the ankle bone shape on the out side of his ankle and the inside is still a puffy blob but is about half the size it was Thursday night.

It has stayed about the same today as yesterday, if it has not changed by tomorrow evening I will call to get him back in on Tuesday.  They said 3 to 5 days, Tuesday will be 4.

This picture is what it should look like normally, See how you can see all the bones and tendons and thinks like that.

What it looked like Wednesday night Thursday am on the ER Table.

one round puffy blob.
Oh and the blister after the doc opened it up and cleaned off the dead skin.
